Race Format
Runners who participated in BQuickRunning’s South Hills Annual Trail Series (or “SHATS”) in the past will recognize this as the night race formerly known as “Goats in the Dark”! It follows the same 5k course as before, starting at the intersection of LeGrande Cannon Blvd and Silverette St, on Helena’s far west side. However, it will take place a month earlier than in past years, making for more pleasant nighttime temperatures and beautiful sunset views before full darkness descends upon the course. Headlamps are still required — don’t forget yours!
The Course
The course follows LeGrande Cannon Blvd east to Tubbs Trailhead, where runners head up the switchbacks for a fun loop on Swaney, Diretissima and Ambrose trails on Mount Helena’s western flank. Runners finish the singletrack portion of the course on the Panhandle trail, which drops down to Reber Rd and onto LeGrande Cannon Blvd for a 1/4-mile sprint back to the start/finish line. - July 13, 2024: Thunderbolt Creek 12k or 30k
- July 27, 2024: Little Blackfoot 10k or 20k
- August 24, 2024: Dark Knight 5k (NOTE – this is a night race)
- September 8, 2024: Ridge Rumble 12k
